U. S. . Post Office- Playing Hide & Seek

Sent a check by priority mail to R.I. with delivery by Dec. 24.  Perfect.
Began it’s long journey in Linthicum. Md. for the next 2 days. Then Capital Heights for a day, then Randallstown, Md.
It was resent to Linthicum for another day, then it made it to Newark, NJ for 2 days. Then a lovely trip to Teterboro, NJ for a day. From there back to Newark and then Tetrrboro where it still sits since Dec. 29.
I complained to local PO and they said they’d look into it. Today on the Tracking site it says that it will be late (!), and it’s still in transit.
It will be interesting to see which gets there first- priority or the one I sent 1st thing Saturday morning by regular mail. Time was of the essence, but...
Mind you, I live on the border of Delaware. Non of the places in Md. are even near me.
You let me down! Big time. And going to online to find out what’s up produced nothing, let alone phoning. Just got caught in recorded loops.
Grrrr!

After Teterboro, NJ, then back to Newark, NJ for a lovely 2 day visit.  A diverting excursion to Springfield, Mass. (western part), then Providence, RI.  Yahoo- vey close.  Nope, diverted to Brewster, Mass. (wrong side of Cape Cod).  But short stay, then back to Prov.  Hey, no one wants to travel to the Cape now.  Next day it’s Boston- a good ride from Newport but a fun town anytime of the year. Back to Providence, then Newport!  Arrived today. Express Mail was sent Dec 21.  It’s now Jan. 5- 15 days! Poor envelope must be exhausted.
BTW, I resent it regular mail and it took Sat.-Friday.  The good news is that my local post office tried everyday to help me and keep me up-to-date.
I’m exhausted just writing this. If I had any energy or expertise I’d post a travel map of the poor little envelope which will now end up in the tras can. Unless the cute Corgi with the fab butt, chews it up.

A HAPPY NEW YEAR from ONE LITTLE VOICE

Happy New Year!

It often takes a village, but it starts off with just one voice.

Hello Mom? Is That You??

Washington state wants to allow you to have the ability to allow cremation of a type wherein mulch is produced.  Many there are thinking : ah, great, I will become a beautiful tree.  Yes!  A tree!  As I thought more about it, though, animal potty immediately jumped into my mind.  Now, that requires a bit more though and none of it pretty.
Do guarantees come with this?  Who will be using this potty?  Lions, tigers, and bears?  Oh, my.  My cat?  My son’s dog?  Can I sell it?  Can I place it where I like? Is it just actually me or will it combined with my neighbor?  Are there restrictions that will be mandated; like, what happens when it’s ver windy or rainy and it moves?  Can I reclaimed it?  Well, not me actually because I am mulch. Do I have any rights?
Interesting minds want to know.
So what do you think?  If I know I’m on the wait out soon, should I try and gain more eight so I produce more mulch? My mom did not want to donate my Dad’s corneas because at the end of the world he would resurrected as blind.  Being resurrected while mulch would seem to ?strange?  Who would recognize me.  But then again, I may not belong to the righteous anyway and all this is discussion, time, and worry, may just be leading me to an earlier death.
I’m exhausted.
To mulch or not to mulch??

Secret Meetings in Perryville? Oh, My! Part 1

Interesting article:https://www.medamd.com/news/great-wolf-lodge-sets-sights-on-perryville/

Mayor of Perryville Robert Ashby Jr. says, “I’ve been working hard to bring excitement
to our Town…meetings and conversations I can finally  talk about. This is a great opportunity
             for all of us.
Mayor Asby via Cecil Whig.

The Mayor has meetings and conversations regarding town business that he can NOW talk about?  Isn’t that the purpose of Open Meeting Regs?  Like to mention that you’ve been negotiating deals for the town; otherwise we may begin to feel left out. Making it sound like a done deal- heck who even needs a council when we have a Mayor?

Familiar with ex-parte Regs?  Don’t believe secretly participating like this is allowed, no matter how “exciting” the Mayor found it.  Hey, Lucy, you have some ‘splainin’ to do!

“Cecil County Economic Development Director Chris Moyer credits the town for making
the initial contact with Great Wolf Resorts (GWR) and says, “we will continue to partner
with Perryville and GWR staff to ensure this project becomes an economic anchor for
Cecil County and a driver for the County’s tourism industry.”

And: “When you’re driving south [on 95], you’ll be able to look up on that hill and see this lodge.  [Y’’all know that hill, right?] It will bring more people into our restaurants; it will bring more people to access our county.’

Course, lowering the $8 toll on the Hatem Bridge would also greatly increase access to the county.

And he used as evidence...? ? because it’s just not true.  It never happened in Ledyyard, Ct., home to Foxwoods Casino and it’s extensive resort.  And it likely won’t happen here either.  In fact, the Mashantucket Pequot resort (on reservation property) employs less than 10% of it workers from the town and the town still relies on property owners for funding with few large businesses. THE pay there is lousy too with workers trying to organize.

The purpose of a resort is for visitors to spend their $ and time there.  What a shock! That’s how they ..like...stay in business.  And the resort just ain’t doing that well now.
Here is Mr. Moyer’s pic.  I’d give you a County link but 2 of them are broken and the working one has no pic, much less any info.

Cecil County has already decided this is great for the town, so what more do we need to know? They’re already partnering with the town to ensure this project.  When did this happen? Not in any local minutes I saw.  We hardly need elected town officials at all. Yet, County officials seem To ignore us when it comes to spending $ here.

Cecil County of course, will be contributing more to the volunteer fire dept. for more and better equipment and we will acquire an actual paid fire department? They had their hands full at the Owens Landing fire where 18 units were completely destroyed in 3 hours- undermanned, ill-equipped, and ill-prepared.  Don’t misunderstand me, they were quite brave and did the best they could.  It was fortunate this time that no human lives were lost this time (I miss my kitty!) But a resort?

Where is the water coming from and the sewers. Water run-off? Police? Any guarantee that locals will be hired?  Pay requirements, benefits?  Sounds actually like more warehousing jobs- low pay and part-time.  These are only some of the questions that shoul be asked.
Now maybe the Great Wolf project is the greatest thing since sliced bread but?   Stay tuned for this ongoing saga.

Wild Words on Christmas Day- 2018

“Words ought to be a little wild, for they are an assault on the thoughts of the unthinking.” John Maynard Keynes.

Strange words today on Christmas.  A Saviour?  Wise men?  Angels?  Surely, if ever there were “wild words” these qualify.
And yet we are consistently warned in family gatherings today to avoid “wild words.” Do NOT talk about religion or politics.
The above quote is by a noted British economist in 1933. The times they were a-changing and so were his thoughts. His speech, though long, is surprisingly applicable to day, although the proper nouns used are different now; e.g. no more Stalin.  His predictions on the forming “Irish Free State” were most definitely wrong.

Mind you wild words do not refer to insults, screaming (unless you’re in the British Parliament), or physicalities. You’d not know that watching the news.

So while this posting may be a bit wild, this may seem to be a good day for it.  But an angelic appearance would be most helpful!

The Great Wolf Lodge is coming to Perryville because they REALLY, REALLY like us!

Or do they?

Great Wolf Lodge- new savior for Perryville, Md. Maybe. Kinda. Sorta.

Click on above link.

Sorry the the local rag, aka “The Cecil Whig”, so heartily endorsed based on local politicians’ hype with few facts.  If it sounds too good to be true...
Evidently El Paso has a few questions.

Reputation of this company- not so good.  More for another day.

Great Wolf Lodge proposal could take a bite out of taxpayers, along with the benefits.

Nah, we might be dumb but we ain’t stupid.

I welcome thoughtful comments.  Want to be a Contributor? On most any topic.  You don’t even have to agree with me.

Christmas is Coming

Two members of my condo board dropped by yesterday and surprised me with this Christmas present- thanks to Steve Benjamin and Howard Stevens.
Depression is a difficult health issue to deal with anytime during the year, but especially now.

“I get by with a little help from my friends.”

Seasonal Dressing

Lily Lola who was a gift from a friend after the fire is in the holiday mode fashionably wearing jewelry, “Grinch” sox  and her new chapeau.
She was meant to cheer me up and does!

Still Lost, but I’m not Alone

Haven’t post for awhile. That ends today. I’m still rather “lost”, but life is often like that. I’m still in Perryville-home of the good, the bad, and the ugly. Sometimes I feel like the “Man who Knew too Much” I enjoy talking with people- everyone’s got a story.
Yesterday I met Bob in the P.O.  I have to go there now for my mail, but that’s another story. He was full of the holiday spirit, ebullient, and wished everyone a happy holiday.
I thanked him outside again when he held the door open for me.
He then told me in his rather fast-talking way about aspects of his life- takes care of his handicapped son and is actually worried about the holidays as he’s broke.
I suggested one of the local churches but no-go, they were empty.
I gave him $20- sad day if I can’t share some of what’s in my wallet.
I then gave him a ride to a local convenience station.
He told me he is quite religious, said a prayer, and continued talking.
Viking Bob, he looks like a finely built one, said he didn’t currently belong to a Church  but would like to. Last one he belonged to was nearby. A service attendee told him if he couldn’t keep his son quiet and still he should get out. He explained his son’s handicap but was still told he wasn’t wanted and to get out. Likely also wasn’t prett enough.
So they did.
Sad. So I suggested a new church and suggested introducing himself to the church personally beforehand rather than just attending. It was pleasant just talking with him.
We then both went our different ways- me to manage a recent investment and him to get food.
Ironic and sad this holiday season. He had no reason to be happy and yet was truly so and shared it.
Cheered me up after recent disasters.
Am I more deserving, luckier, or harder working? Beats me.  Can’t help but think about our being the richest country ever and yet we all see more and more poverty everyday.
